Schengen Area comprises of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland

All Indian passport holders require a valid visa to enter Finland

If multiple countries in a Schengen area is to be visited then Finland must be the country with the maximum duration of stay or if all the stays at the Schengen countries are same, then it must be the first country at the port of entry in the Schengen area.

Each applicant must have all the mandatory documents as mentioned in requirement tabs below.

In addition to the documents mentioned, our visa experts or the concerned embassy may require you to furnish additional documents to process your visa. Your cooperation in furnishing any such additional documents is essential for a positive outcome.

If all the documents are not ready at the time of agent visit then additional charges are levied when the agent revisits your residence.

Fee may vary for country if the rate of exchange of Euro fluctuates.

Visa fee is nonrefundable whether visa is approved or rejected.

Indian travelers who have received both shots of Covishield vaccine or any other EMA approved vaccine are eligible to travel to Finland

  • Do I need a negative RT-PCR test report to travel to Finland?

No, Finland is not allowing Indian travelers who are fully vaccinated by Covaxin as of now.

  • How will I provide proof of socio-professional status?

This can be done by submitting a variety of documents. For those who are employed or studying, you will need to submit a letter. This letter should state the name and position of the applicant, the salary, number of years being employed/studying and approval of absence/position after leave. It must be on the official letterhead, and stamped and dated. The name, position and signature of the countersigning officer must be there, as well as contact details of the applicant (phone number, email, address). For those who are retired/unemployed, a proof of pension or other regular income (for elderly), a marriage certificate with employment certificate of spouse (for married persons), unemployment certificate can be submitted.

  • When should I apply for this visa?

Finland visa applications can be submitted upto 3 months before the trip, however, you must apply at least 1 month before.

  • Can I use another Schengen visa (not Finland) to visit Finland?

Yes, you can - applying for another Schengen state’s visa means you can still visit all Schengen states. However, if Finland is your main destination and you are going to spend most of your time here, you will need to apply for a Finland Schengen visa only. If you plan to visit any other Schengen states during your visit to Finland, this needs to be specified too.

  • Will I be called for an interview for my visa?

Although all documents have been submitted, the Embassy may require you to further prove your case. In the event of this, you may be called for an interview - which can prolong the processing time. This is not usually the case, but is a possibility.

  • Is there a Finland visa on arrival for Indian citizens?

No, as of date all Indian nationals must apply for a visa before entering Finland and/or other countries under the Schengen agreement.

  • Do I need to submit biometrics for my Finland visa?

Yes. All applicants must submit biometric data - 10 fingerprints and a photo. This data is stored in the Visa Information System (VIS), an IT system allowing data exchange between the Schengen States.

  • Where do I apply for a Finland visa?

All Schengen visas (including Finland) should be applied for at the respective Embassy/Consulate of the country of your main destination. This means that if Finland is your main destination (i.e. you are spending the most number of days here), you must apply in the Finnish Embassy. If you need help with Embassy visa processing, Visa2Fly is here to help - we will assist you with doorstep visa consultation and delivery.

  • Is the Finland visa valid for all Schengen states?

Unless stated differently on the stamp, short-stay visas such as business and tourist visas are valid for all Schengen states. This includes the following countries:Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland.

  • I was advised to go for a short-stay visa. Isn’t this the same as the tourist visa?

All short-stay visas can be used for a stay of 90 or less days in Finland. Tourist and business visas fall under the Short Stay category - however, rest assured that your visa will reflect your intent to travel for business purposes, as you will need to state this when you apply.

  • My employment contract is in my local language. Can I submit it as-is?

All appendices (e.g. invitation letter or letter of employment) should be presented in English or Finnish. Kindly translate the copy and attach a translated page of this along with a photocopy of the original.

  • If I wish to leave the airport during transit, what kind of visa would I need?

Once you are outside the ‘international zone’ of the airport, you will need a short-stay visa (i.e. tourist visa). This visa will help if you need to change airports within Finland to continue your travel, or are waiting for the transfer flight at a hotel/accommodation outside the airport.

  • Do Indian citizens need a transit visa to transit through Finland?

No, Indian citizens do not. This policy was implemented in July 2018.

  • Can I transit through all Schengen states without a transit visa?

No, you cannot. Some Schengen countries require Indians to have a transit visa, such as Germany and Czech Republic. Please check if you are transiting through more than one Schengen country before you book your tickets. If you are transiting through more than 1 Schengen country, the transit visa for Country A is not valid to transit through Country B (eg. transiting through Germany and Denmark in the same trip means that you need a separate Denmark transit visa and a separate Germany transit visa).

  • Are there any exceptions to which I don’t need a transit visa?

In Finland, Indian citizens do not need a transit visa to transit. However, for other Schengen countries, if you wish to transit without a visa, there are some exceptions. If you hold a diplomatic passport, or are a family member of a citizen of the EU or have a residency permit in EU, you can transit without a visa. If you hold a valid Schengen visa for another Schengen state (eg. are in Finland but have a Germany Schengen visa), you may be allowed to leave the airport during transit.

  • Are the processing times for Schengen transit visas less than the normal tourist visa?

The time taken to process both tourist and transit visas are the same: 15 days approx. It may take up to 30-45 days in special circumstances based on the individual applicant and the documents they submit.

  • Will I be called for an interview for my visa?

Although all documents have been submitted, the Embassy may require you to further prove your case. In the event of this, you may be called for an interview - which can prolong the processing time. This is not usually the case, but is a possibility.
